Deirdre grew up in Salthill Galway and graduated from Medicine in 1984 from NUIG. She holds a Diploma in Child Health (UCD); Masters in Public Health (UCD); MSc Child Health (UCD).

She spent 25 years working in Public Health and Community Health with the HSE and was based in Co Kildare. In 2015, she took early retirement and was awarded Membership of the Irish College of General Practitioners in 2018. She served on the Fitness to Practice Committee of the Medical Council from 2019-2021.
She worked in The Menopause Hub in Dublin for a few months before opening her own Menopause Clinic (Ceile Medical) in The Midlands in Dec 2019.

In 2022, she was awarded ICGP Certification in Menopause Care and in 2023, she was recognised as a Menopause Specialist with British Menopause Society. Deirdre is also a member of British Menopause Society; European Menopause & Andropause Society; Associate member of RCOG
She currently works full time as a Menopause Specialist in Ceile Medical. Her special interests are in educating women about Menopause and runs Menopause Information Talks in the local libraries in the Midlands. She has also run Educational Evenings to Midlands Practice Nurses. She advocates for Menopause Care for women with Intellectual Disabilities and currently treats this cohort.
